Book Review: Killer Content by Kiley Roache

The Lit Lair, a content house of teenaged influencers, has it all: millions of followers, lucrative sponsorship deals and a Malibu mansion. However, things start to go south when one of them is found dead in the pool and the rest are pronounced suspects. The group's TikTok account is taken over by an outsider, who starts posting about the murder. Personal jealousy, a financial scandal and an affair emerge, all accompanied by intensive media scrutiny and incriminating evidence.

Rating: 2/5

This book follows the point of view of the six influencers who constitute the content house, with each chapter being narrated by a different character. The premise of this book was what had initially piqued my interest enough for me to start reading it, and it did not disappoint. The author does a great job with keeping the reader engaged.
However, I had some issues with the plot and the way it was paced. The twist confused me and I found it highly unrealistic that neither the police nor anyone else could make advances in the case until about three-fourths of the way in, at which point one of the characters solves the mystery in about a minute. I also found the manner in which the police handled the case quite childish.
In terms of the characters, I felt that the book lacked development. I could not bring myself to care for or connect with any of them.
Amidst the mystery, the book explores lightly some pressing themes that are quite relevant to the twenty-first century.

This was a decent book overall, easy and entertaining to read. It would appeal greatly to fans of Karen M. McManus.

" "We had a...dispute regarding Animal Crossing- you know, the video game? So that's why I made the joke." I'm hoping that using words like "dispute" and "regarding," which sound kind of official, will help him understand. "
